On March 18, 2024, a post appeared on X from the account @baiholIla containing a fragment of a video from the Suspilne talk show “Novyi Vidlik”, whose guest was former Member of Parliament and politician Hanna Hopko. The hosts of the show are Andrii Dikhtiarenko and Vlasta Lazur.

The video fragment was accompanied by the following caption: “The host totally freaked out. The look on her face is not just fear — it’s horror :)) So what, b*tches, did Zelensky bend you over in just 2 years? Had a laugh?”

The comments under the post also contained disparaging remarks directed at host Vlasta Lazur. In particular:

  • “This is Vlasta Lazur. If you listen to her other interviews, it’s all Zelensky brain rot there.”
  • “The monkey freaked out, prostitute.”
  • “Under Poroshenko, addressing a female journali$t as ‘my dear’ caused outrage in their circles.
  • But being called a ‘stupid sheep’ under Ze is apparently fine and causes no outrage!
  • That’s Porokh’s main mistake!”
  • “This journo-whore Vlasta Lazur is a huge Zelensky fan. Hanna Hopko did great. Usually people are afraid to speak directly, but here came such a remark.”
  • “When I saw the clip with this host asking Portnikov why the hoarse one wouldn’t win the next election, I also noticed her anxious facial expression, as if someone had attacked her.”

Thus, this post and its comments demonstrate signs of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), including online defamation, gendered disinformation, hate speech, and misogynistic abuse. Host Vlasta Lazur is discredited not through criticism of her work or professional standards, but through emotionally charged and degrading labels. Such statements are aimed at undermining the journalist specifically as a woman in the public sphere, while also constructing an image of her as allegedly politically biased or “controlled” through manipulative claims about her support for the government.

In addition, the comments contain sexist and dehumanizing language, as well as attempts to mock the journalist’s emotional reactions and facial expressions on camera. This is a typical TFGBV tactic, where women journalists are attacked over their appearance, emotions, or behavior rather than their professional arguments. The spread of such comments on social media intensifies the atmosphere of public harassment and may contribute to psychological pressure, reputational damage, and attempts to push the journalist out of active public discourse.
