FacebookIn 2023, Vladislava Chorna, Editor-in-Chief of Bukvy, faced online impersinalisation, bullying, and the spread of false information about her family, by the outlet’s co-founder, Petro Terentiev. According to Chorna, Terentiev altered her author profile on the old Bukvy domain, which remained under his control, replacing her photo with an image of the cartoon character Peppa Pig and modifying her bio. This is an example of online impersonation intended to damage a journalist’s reputation.
Vladislava Chorna emphasized that Petro Terentiev had threatened her family, including her parents, her then-minor brother, and her husband, who was also a contributor to Bukvy.

“Through my example, I want to show journalists that bullying doesn’t come only from readers but also from management. If you tolerate it for too long and fail to set boundaries — whether regarding comments on appearance, interference in personal life, or content on social media (not only about me but also some of my colleagues) — it can escalate, as it did in my case. The situation spiraled out of control, leading to threatening calls to my father, false information about my relatives, and absurd stories about them,” said the media professional, explaining her motivation to share the details of her experience in comments for Women in Media.
