On July 29, 2026, a long-form interview with former Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov, conducted by Sevgil Musaieva and Mykhailo Tkach, was published on the YouTube channel of the media outlet Ukrainska Pravda. The interview was also distributed through the outlet’s social media accounts.

The comments under the interview contained numerous statements accusing Ukrainska Pravda, its journalists, and its editor-in-chief Sevgil Musaieva of being corrupt, working on commission, serving the interests of “Soros money,” and allegedly spreading lies. For example, the journalists were described as “short-sighted, arrogant, and stupid,” “journalist whores,” “a disgrace to Ukrainian journalism,” “chief hack writers,” “a biased clique,” and “Euro-provocateurs.” Commenters also suggested shutting down the outlet and sending Mykhailo Tkach and Sevgil Musaieva “to dig trenches” and “to the front.”

In addition, the editor-in-chief of Ukrainska Pravda was mockingly referred to as “Sevgil Fialivna,” alluding to the name of the outlet’s owner, Tomas Fiala, as well as “Fiala whores” and “Fiala’s mistake.”

Thus, this case demonstrates signs of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), including a combination of online defamation, gendered disinformation, misogynistic hate speech, sexist insults, reputational attacks, and calls for the symbolic punishment of journalists. A significant share of the comments is directed not at the content of the interview or the journalists’ arguments, but at discrediting the newsroom and its representatives through degrading labels, which is a typical form of online defamation.

In relation to Sevgil Musaieva, additional gendered insults and derogatory renaming are used with the apparent aim of humiliating her as both a woman and a journalist and of creating the impression that she is personally or financially dependent on the outlet’s owner. Such statements exhibit features of gendered disinformation, as they reduce the journalist’s professional activity to assumptions about external influence and a lack of professional autonomy.

Taken together, the misogynistic insults, reputational attacks, and calls for punishment create a hostile online environment, intensify psychological pressure on the journalists, and may have a chilling effect on the newsroom’s future professional activity, particularly when covering politically sensitive issues.
