On September 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Ukrinform (8/16 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho St., Kyiv) will host the roundtable discussion “From Experimentation to Standards: Ethical Use of AI in Ukrainian Newsrooms.”
Previously, the NGO Women in Media and the international organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) developed a model policy on the use of artificial intelligence in newsrooms, along with a practical guide to its implementation. As a result of the project, several media outlets have already adopted their own AI policies: Starlight Media, The Ukrainian Week, Frontliner, Rubryka, Gwara Media, and Radio Nakypilo from Kharkiv, as well as the Vist newspaper from Chernihiv region.
This is one of the first examples in Ukraine of a systematic approach to introducing internal newsroom guidelines that govern the use of AI tools in line with ethical and gender-sensitive principles embedded in EU legislation. At the same time, moving from isolated experiments with AI to systematic newsroom standards requires a broader professional discussion.

- Olena Andriienko, Head of the Ethics and Legal Track of the Ukrainian Large Language Model (LLM) Development Project.
- Dmytro Shvydchenko, Head of the Analytical Work Department at the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine.
Participants will share their practical experience in developing and implementing AI policies, discuss the challenges newsrooms face, as well as the legal and ethical requirements for the use of artificial intelligence in the media.
