On September 25, 2025, hackers broke into the blog of public figure, entrepreneur, and free-market lawyer Yana Matviichuk on the Ukrainska Pravda website. On her behalf, they published a fake article claiming that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ drone attack on Foros in occupied Crimea was a “war crime.” The author later described the incident in her blog after it was restored.

Although the UP editorial team promptly reacted to the hack and quickly removed the fake article from the site, the publication attributed to Yana Matviichuk had already been cited by several Russian propaganda platforms, including RIA, Crimea News Wire, URA, Gazeta.ru, and Rambler.

This hack demonstrates a deliberate attempt to discredit both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian media by spreading disinformation messages allegedly authored by a Ukrainian contributor on one of the country’s leading online platforms. Moreover, it is also a clear example of deliberate manipulation aimed at undermining the author’s reputation through online impersonation — the theft of her blog and the misuse of her name.
