Oksana Ivanets - attack 26.08.2026

On August 25, 2026, hromadske published a post on its X account featuring, among other things, comments by war journalist and veteran Oksana Ivanets:

“Reserve lieutenant colonel, mother of five, Ukrainian Armed Forces veteran and military journalist Oksana Ivanets believes that before general mobilization is announced, the Defense Forces should establish a system for the large-scale enlistment of women.
‘I support the mobilization of women — we can replace men in non-combat positions in the rear. But for women to feel comfortable in the military, our state still has a lot of work to do,’ says the reserve officer,” the post reads.

The following comments directed at the journalist, other women journalists, and the hromadske editorial team as a whole were recorded under the post:

• “Go to hell, the whole editorial team.”
• “Paid media will tell its own truth! They remain silent about the genocide coming to Ukraine’s streets. Paid media will not say that peace is better than war, will not say that Ukraine is already facing a demographic crisis. Paid media will talk only about war and the mobilization of women. You are scum of the nation.”
• “Hromadske’s women journalists should be mobilized, yes.”

Thus, this case contains certain indicators of TFGBV, including hate speech, gendered disinformation, and online defamation. These include accusations of being paid off, calls for the mobilization of women journalists from a specific editorial team, and the use of gendered insults. The call specifically targets women journalists and effectively proposes using their gender as a basis for compulsory military service. Such comments may be intended to humiliate and discredit women journalists, negatively affecting their ability to carry out their professional work.
