Maya Orel - attack 30.06.2025

On July 30, 2025, a reaction post appeared on the Telegram channel “News of Truth: Oleshko’s Blog” to an article published the same day on Hromadske’s website titled “Purgatory for Men: One Day at a City Assembly Point for Mobilized Soldiers.”

The post contained signs of hate speech and gender-based disinformation targeting journalist Maya Orel, as well as her colleagues at Hromadske — including Editor-in-Chief Kyrylo Lukerenko — and the outlet Detector Media.

• “I wonder why Detector Media, another grant-fed dump run by Ligachova, is silent about such a blatant violation of journalism?”

The author of the channel is blogger Myroslav Oleshko, who previously crossed the border illegally to evade mobilization. Later, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) notified him of suspicion under two criminal articles.

This was not the first time Oleshko attacked Ukrainian media and individual female journalists. In May 2025, he spread a screenshot with a falsified headline from Ukrainska Pravda to promote anti-mobilization narratives. In October 2024, Oleshko also attacked online a journalist Maryna Shashkova in his Telegram channel over her Facebook post.
