On 3 July 2026, the Telegram channel “Novyny Pravdy: Myr Oleshko” published a post mentioning Bukvy co-founder and journalist Kateryna Roshchuk. The post featured a clip from a broadcast in which Roshchuk discussed the issue of mobilization in Ukraine and was accompanied by the following caption:

“‘Russia will start financing pro-Russian parties in Ukraine that will say, “WE ARE FOR PEACE!” Do you think Ukrainians won’t support them? I’m sure they will. Therefore, WE MUST PREPARE FOR A LONG WAR, WE MUST ATTACK RUSSIA!’ — Roshchuk, head of Bukvy. Her husband is evading mobilization—he doesn’t want to attack Russia.
So, according to this propagandist, only pro-Russian parties can say ‘we are for peace.’
And genuinely pro-Ukrainian parties are supposed to say ‘we are for war’?”

The comments under the post contained examples of hate speech, sexism, and gendered disinformation, including:

  • “If she wants to attack, let her sign a contract with Skelya as an assault soldier. Another female war fanatic has crawled out.” “This bitch should take a look at what’s happening in Sumy right now—people are lying in the streets with their arms and legs blown off…”
  • “What an idiot.”
  • “Why doesn’t she go sit in a trench herself? Such a motivated female fighter, yet she’s been sitting comfortably in the studio for five years. Shameful.”

This case demonstrates clear indicators of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), including a combination of gendered disinformation, online defamation, misogynistic hate speech, and sexist abuse. The post and the accompanying comments seek to discredit the journalist not by engaging with the substance of her professional statements but by portraying her as hypocritical, misrepresenting her views, and spreading unsubstantiated allegations about her family. Her professional credibility is further undermined through gender stereotypes suggesting that a woman has no legitimacy to speak publicly about war or mobilization unless she personally participates in combat.

The comments also contain misogynistic insults and degrading language, as well as repeated calls for the journalist to go to the front lines herself. Such rhetoric functions as a form of public humiliation and intimidation, contributing to her discrediting and undermining public trust in her professional work.
