Daria Bura - attack 29.07.2026

On July 29, 2026, journalist Daria Bura posted on her Facebook page about the murder of a female doctor serving on a Military Medical Commission (MMC) in Kyiv:

“During an MMC examination, a man liable for military service fatally wounded a female doctor. According to the Kyiv City Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCR), the incident occurred on July 29 at around 3:30 PM inside the premises of Off-budget Military Medical Commission No. 1 at the Podilskyi District TCR. The man, who had previously been brought to the TCR by the police as a military registration violator, was referred for an MMC examination. During the checkup in the surgeon’s office, he inflicted fatal knife wounds on the doctor. The woman died on the spot from her injuries. Unpunished evil in the form of cowards, draft dodgers, and assholes always comes back to cause great harm. Too weak to kill enemies, but brave enough to kill a female doctor.”

The comments section under the post exhibited clear signs of online attacks, specifically hate speech, sexism, and threats of physical violence. Examples include:

• “Dear dumbass [wordplay on her surname ‘Bura’ / ‘Dura’] from the party of fucking militant women, tell me, how many such incidents occurred during 22-23? SO MAYBE YOU’LL FINALLY TURN ON YOUR BRAINS AND REALIZE THAT SOMETHING HAS GONE WRONG? And that the problem isn’t draft dodgers and cowards?”
• “You’ve been put on the list too. When the war ends, oh how your heels will be sparkling [as you run away].”
• “So, Dashenka, looks like you can go serve in air defense too…”

Consequently, this case demonstrates clear indicators of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). Following the publication of her post, journalist Daria Bura was subjected to sexist and gender-based abuse; specifically, she was devalued for being a woman through derogatory labels such as “dumbass from the party of militant women.” Furthermore, the comments contained direct threats and intimidation targeting the journalist, including implicit threats of physical harm and future retaliation.

Such statements exhibit signs of online harassment, gender-based hate speech, and threats of violence. They aim to instill a sense of danger in the journalist, exert severe psychological pressure, and create a chilling effect on her professional activities—particularly when reporting on socially sensitive topics.
