XOn 30 July 2026, a post appeared on the Espreso TV page on the social network X, quoting comments made by presenter and journalist Maryna Danyliuk-Yarmolaieva regarding the dismissal of Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov. The post carried the following headline: “Fedorov needs to decide whose side he is on and not turn into a new Arestovych, — Danyliuk-Yarmolaieva.”
The comments under the post included statements directed at the journalist such as: “God, she is so insane,” “journalist whore,” and “here’s some advice: think before you say stupid things.” The note featuring the journalist’s quote was also shared on the Espreso TV Facebook page, where commenters referred to Maryna Danyliuk-Yarmolaieva as “a freak” and “a circus act on a wire.”

This case demonstrates signs of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), primarily in the forms of misogynistic hate speech, sexist insults, online defamation, and reputational attacks against journalist Maryna Danyliuk-Yarmolaieva. The original Espreso TV post concerned her political commentary on Mykhailo Fedorov; however, a significant share of the comments focused not on discussing the substance of her opinion but on discrediting the journalist herself as a woman and media professional.
The use of insults such as “journalist whore” and derogatory labels such as “insane,” “freak,” and “circus act on a wire” constitutes misogynistic and sexist rhetoric aimed at publicly humiliating the journalist. Such remarks are not constructive criticism of her professional work; rather, they function as tools of degradation, ridicule, and undermining public trust in her as a public figure. Taken together, these comments create a hostile online environment, increase psychological pressure, and may negatively affect the journalist’s professional reputation and her future participation in public debate.
