FacebookOn March 5, 2026, journalist and war correspondent Anna Kaliuzhna published a post on her Facebook page in which she accused the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, of “draining the entire Ukrainian army into his assault non-troops under the loud silence of everyone involved.” In particular, she drew attention to the fact that the commander of the 225th Assault Regiment, Oleh Shyriaiev, was “effectively commanding a division.”
Following this post, Kaliuzhna faced online attacks on social media. She began receiving private messages and comments containing threats, sexualized harassment, sexism, and hate speech. She described this in her next post, attaching screenshots as evidence.

“Over the night and half a day I received more than 150 private messages, mostly from closed or empty profiles. Most of them introduce themselves as servicemen of the ‘225’. Some say they are ‘friends of friends.’ The comments are mostly misogynistic: ‘go cook borscht,’ ‘go back to the kitchen,’ and so on. There are also many saying ‘do you even know how things work?’ I do. ‘You weren’t there’ (which is funny because I was). There are also completely identical messages copied from a mailing,” the journalist wrote.
In an interview with Detector Media, Kaliuzhna explained that in her post she had “simply cited publicly available information.” She noted that these stories had previously been reported by journalists from outlets such as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Suspilne, and others. Sources of Babel within the Air Assault Forces had said that their losses were higher than those of all airborne units during the Kursk operation. She also referenced information Shyriaiev himself mentioned in a conversation with Yuliia Kyriienko, stating that he commanded 15 battalions. Kaliuzhna added that none of the fighters she personally knew from the 225th regiment had written to her; most of the accounts that contacted her were private, and some had been created recently.
“This looks like a coordinated action, possibly from commanders of that regiment. I clearly understand that these are not just random people who decided to message me, because some messages repeat exactly the same wording. For example, two profiles sent me identical sentences,” Kaliuzhna said in a comment to the outlet.
Previously, Women in Media had already documented another online attack against Anna Kaliuzhna on its incident map, when she similarly faced a wave of threats and abusive comments following a Facebook post.
