On July 3, 2025, a video with signs of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology was circulated on Facebook. The video featured well-known Ukrainian TV presenter from the “1+1” channel, Alla Mazur, who allegedly, in a news format, announced that “prostatitis can be treated at home, without injections or surgery, and more than 100,000 Ukrainians have already regained their male health.” The video begins with a sensational lead-in: “Shocking news from the media community. Well-known doctor Natalia Zemna…” In this way, an “official” announcement is fabricated on behalf of the journalist, increasing audience trust in false information and serving as disguised advertising for pseudo-medical products.

Signs of deepfake

  • Lip and voice movements are not synchronized, indicating the overlay of a generated image onto real video.
  • Manipulative introductory text that imitates journalistic news delivery but is intended to promote fraudulent content.
  • Unauthorized use of the image of a female journalist to create a fake medical announcement.

Why this is an example of TFGBV (technology-facilitated gender-based violence)

  • The video deliberately exploits the image of women in media, using public trust in Alla Mazur’s professional reputation.
  • It undermines her authority as a journalist while creating additional risks of psychological and reputational harm.
  • Such attacks against women in media are systemic: they target not only specific individuals but also aim to foster distrust and discredit women in journalism.

The significance of this case lies in its illustrative example of how artificial intelligence is used for healthcare-related fraud, to undermine trust in media by discrediting reputable TV channels, and in demonstrating the gendered dimension of such attacks — since the image of a female journalist was exploited for manipulation.
