“We believe in the power of truth — and we know the world is listening.” WAN-IFRA publishes article on Ukrainian journalists at war

30.04.2025

The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has published an article titled “Beyond the call of duty: How Ukraine’s embattled journalists respond to war,” highlighting how Ukrainian journalists continue their work despite the war, threats, and ongoing uncertainty.

The piece features a comment from Liza Kuzmenko, head of the NGO Women in Media, on the specific challenges faced by women in journalism:

“We’re not just reporting on a war — we’re living through it. Despite the fear, fatigue, and grief, Ukrainian women journalists continue to do their work with courage and dignity. We believe in the power of truth — and we know the world is listening.”

The article also mentions the Map of Online Attacks Against Ukrainian Women Journalists, developed by our organization with the support of international partners, as an example of a systematic response to digital threats.

The article explores:

  • the impact of the war on Ukraine’s media community,
  • the exhausting conditions for frontline reporting,
  • lack of funding and infrastructure,
  • the leadership of women in media,
  • and the importance of international solidarity and mutual support.
