Ukrainian Week adopts Gender Equality Policy

04.09.2025

Ukrainian Week adheres to the principle of gender equality in its activities. The Gender Equality Policy in media content, developed by the NGO Women in Media in cooperation with the Commission on Journalistic Ethics and with the support of the OSCE, is applied by Ukrainian Week across both its website and print edition.

The policy is a written document and publicly available. All employees are informed about it.

“As a media outlet, we understand the crucial role we play in defending human rights, including combating the spread of gender stereotypes. That is why our editorial team makes efforts to recognize, acknowledge, and overcome such stereotypes. This gender policy is part of our commitment to our team, partners, and our audience,” Ukrainian Week stated.

Editor-in-chief of Ukrainian Week Marharyta Dykalyuk says: “Today, the media face a major challenge of our time. Alongside other tasks, they must actively counter gender stereotypes. That is why our Ukrainian Week strictly adheres to the principle of gender equality, treats sensitive issues with care, and works to prevent discrimination and the spread of stereotypes.”

Liza Kuzmenko, head of the NGO Women in Media, believes that adopting a separate policy is a step toward building a new professional editorial culture: “Ukrainian Week has long been a model media outlet that follows journalistic standards and ethics. It is clear that the newsroom has long abided by unwritten rules related to equality, including gender equality. But it is extremely important that these principles are now formalized in a separate policy and made public on the website. This not only reinforces the newsroom’s internal practices but also provides a transparent benchmark for the entire media community. Such a step strengthens the trust of audiences as well as partners, including international ones.”

It should be recalled that other media outlets — such as Ukrainska Pravda, LB.ua, Espreso, Kyiv24, Channel 5, Hromadske Radio, and others — have previously adopted the Gender Equality Policy in media content.
