The National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, in partnership with the “Women in Media” NGO and with the support of International Media Support (IMS), announces a call for best practices from Ukrainian newsrooms in the field of gender equality and diversity.
We aim to identify and highlight media outlets that are driving positive change — creating safe, equal, and inclusive environments within their teams and producing content that is more representative and diverse.
“The media regulator not only records violations and draws attention to challenges but also acknowledges newsrooms implementing progressive changes. We believe that every newsroom, regardless of size, is already making important steps toward gender equality. Even a small initiative can serve as an example for others and have a significant impact,” — said Olha Herasymiuk, Chair of the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine.
“We see that more and more newsrooms are introducing changes that make their teams more diverse and their content more gender-sensitive. We want to showcase these examples so that each newsroom can be inspired by the experiences of others and gain practical tools for further work,” — noted Liza Kuzmenko, Head of the “Women in Media” NGO and member of the Commission on Journalistic Ethics.
What kind of experience are we looking for?
Organizers invite media outlets to share:
- 1–2 examples of content from 2024–2025 that were most significant for your newsroom in promoting gender equality or diversity and/or received strong audience engagement;
- 1–2 examples of internal changes or policies your newsroom has implemented in this area.
These can include large-scale policies or smaller initiatives such as gender equality training for staff, adapting job postings for people with disabilities, internal knowledge sharing, or adopting the use of gender-sensitive language in content.
How to take part?
Fill out the application form.
Deadline: November 30, 2025.
What’s the outcome?
Based on the collected examples, we will create a Collection of Best Practices of Ukrainian Media — a practical resource for newsrooms across the country. This will be the first systematic publication showcasing real, effective solutions that promote gender equality and diversity in the media sector.
A public presentation and award ceremony will also be held to recognize media outlets that demonstrate leadership in advancing equality and inclusivity.
