Continuing to Care for Our Health Together: Support for Women Journalists from “Women in Media” NGO

05.11.2025

In the daily whirlwind of work deadlines, caring for loved ones, and the constant stress of war, finding time for yourself and your health can feel nearly impossible.

Of course, responsibility for social protection and medical insurance lies with media owners. However, we understand the difficult situation Ukrainian newsrooms face during wartime. That’s why we support women journalists who are now experiencing double pressure — taking on additional responsibilities at work and at home due to the mobilization of colleagues and partners, balancing professional duties with caregiving, and coping with war-related stress.

At the same time, we encourage media outlets to look for ways to support their employees in taking care of their health.

“Women in Media” NGO, with the support of the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), continues its health support program for women journalists — “Taking Care of Our Health.” We have been running this initiative since 2022 and have already provided assistance to hundreds of women in media.

Opportunity for Women Journalists

As part of this initiative, we cover medical expenses for Ukrainian women journalists related to women’s health check-ups — including oncological and hormonal screenings, as well as consultations with gynecologists and mammologists.

But the support doesn’t end there. We can also cover consultations with psychotherapists, eye examinations and glasses, or the purchase of a blood pressure monitor.

How Much Support Is Provided

The “Taking Care of Our Health” program offers financial support of up to 7,000 UAH per person.

A mandatory requirement is providing receipts or other proof of received services.

Deadlines and Application Process

To apply and justify your need, please fill out this short Google form by November 14.

You can use the financial support until December 14.

Only selected applicants will receive confirmation. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to support every request, but we’ll keep looking for additional opportunities.

Supporting the Community

Women in Media is a non-governmental organization that grew out of a small community of women journalists. We are media professionals who see the challenges from within and seek ways to overcome them.

To stay up to date, join discussions, and contribute to the development of our community, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and in our Facebook group. Let’s stay connected, share ideas, and support each other — the more of us there are, the more opportunities we create for growth, care, and mutual support. For any questions, please contact project manager Oleksandra Horchynska at gor4inska@gmail.com.

The “Caring for Our Health” initiative by Women in Media NGO is part of the “Voices of Ukraine” support program coordinated by the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF). The “Voices of Ukraine” program is implemented within the framework of the Hannah Arendt Initiative and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
