Kyiv24 Media Company has officially adopted a gender equality policy. The document was posted on the website, noting that the editorial office’s gender policy is part of its commitment to the team, partners, and audience.

Nataliia Liashchenko, the channel’s head, stated that they have been implementing a policy of equality and balance in news coverage for several years. This applies not only to gender groups but also to all forms of diversity, across any characteristic. Nataliia affirms that the team respects these guidelines.
“The biggest surprise for the team was that we only formalized this process now,” Nataliia shares.
The company is committed to maintaining equality within the editorial team by providing equal opportunities and access to management positions. It also pledges to ensure equal remuneration for the same type of work.
Regarding content, they promise to maintain gender balance in selecting experts, debunk gender stereotypes, and avoid sexism, among other commitments.
Nataliia Liashchenko states that, since the Kyiv24 channel belongs to the Kyiv community, they should operate in the community’s best interests.
“Global experience has proven many times that implementing a gender balance policy offers numerous advantages and propels society forward. As a future public broadcaster, we should set an example of a civilized approach to our work,” says the media leader.
According to Nataliia Liashchenko, the so-called “general staff” — the editorial board consisting of producers, responsible editors, and thematic editors — will oversee the implementation of the gender policy at Kyiv24.
“Together, we make tactical and creative decisions. In the departments we refer to as “divisions,” producers work with journalists, guest editors, and even camera operators and editing directors. New employees undergo an onboarding process during which, in their first days, those responsible for their areas of work provide instructions and answer questions. At the end of this process, after the broadcast, there is internal monitoring that analyzes our performance, highlighting areas where we adjusted and identifying successful aspects from a technological perspective,” Nataliia explains.
She emphasizes that viewers, who actively exercise their right to highlight shortcomings in various ways or simply vote by pressing buttons on their devices when choosing information sources, have a significant influence.
We would like to highlight that KYIV24 is the media outlet for the capital’s community—a joint multimedia platform comprising the TV channel “Kyiv” and “Radio Kyiv – 98 FM.” In addition to the news portal, it combines the websites of the TV channel (tv.kyiv24.news), featuring an archive of its original content, and the radio station (radio.kyiv24.news), which offers an archive of current radio programs in podcast format.
The rules adopted by the Kyiv24 channel are based on recommendations from the Women in Media NGO and the Commission on Journalistic Ethics, supported by the OSCE Support Program for Ukraine. The gender equality policy is available for download at the following link.
