On the eve of March 8th – International Women’s Rights Day, the NGO “Women in Media” in collaboration with the Government Commissioner for Gender Equality Policy, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine, international partners, will hold an expert discussion in a roundtable format to draw attention to the importance of gender equality in Ukrainian media.

- Taras Shevchenko, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy for European Integration;
- Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information;
- Liza Kuzmenko, Head of the NGO “Women in Media,” member of the Commission on Journalistic Ethics;
- Iryna Slavinska, Radio “Culture” Executive producer, National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (UA:PBC);
- Yana Honcharenko, Director of Communications and Sustainable Development at Starlight Media;
- Tymur Levchuk, Advisor on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, USAID Transformation Communications Activity;
- Roman Kifliuk, National advisor for Ukraine, International Media Support (IMS);
- Anastasia Rudenko, Editor-in-Chief at Ukrainian media Rubryka.com, co-founder of the media Network “Window of Recovery.”
In particular, the results of the Study on the Presence of Sexism in Online Media and of the national marathon United News (Yedyni Novyny) will be presented, as well as the characterization of media coverage of gender-based violence (GBV) and conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV).
Additionally, the Coalition “Gender Equality in Ukrainian Media” will be presented. The coalition’s goal is to promote dialogue and coordination to advance gender equality and inclusivity in Ukrainian media, especially during the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as to strengthen gender mainstreaming as a principle of good governance.
The Coalition “Gender Equality in Ukrainian Media” is the Women in Media and International Media Support (IMS) initiative. Among the media participants: Hromadske Radio, Public Broadcasting, Detector Media, Rubryka, Nakypilo Media Group, UKRINFORM, Divoche.media. Civil society organizations: Ukrainian Women Lawyers Association “JurFem”, IRPP – Institute for Regional Press Development, ZMINA.Human Rights Center, Center for Democratic Reforms. Government bodies: Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy.
