2024 marked another significant stage in the development of Women in Media NGO. The organization continued its mission to build a network of Ukrainian women journalists united by mutual support, feminism, and professional interests while fostering a gender-sensitive media environment. We unite women in the media to tackle challenges on two levels:
- Equality in editorial offices: ensuring equal opportunities, access to positions, and fair remuneration.
- Equality in media content: combating sexism, promoting leadership, and providing resources to protect women’s rights.
The Women in Media initiative was launched in April 2019 by Liza Kuzmenko and Viktoria Yermolayeva, former colleagues at Hromadske Radio. It began as a small Facebook group and has grown into a powerful network of 1,600 women journalists, editors, producers, and other female media professionals from all regions of Ukraine and various media sectors. Women in Media NGO was officially registered in September 2019.
Our activities focus on offering organizational, psychological, expert, and financial support to women media professionals, often through a peer-to-peer format. We conduct analytical research, organize advocacy meetings and events, honor journalists for their contributions to overcoming gender inequality, and provide training.
